Star Quarterback Russell Wilson Announces “Hiatus From the Field”

Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Russell Wilson has announced that he will not be active for an undetermined amount of time. The shocking announcement comes on the heels of a stinging loss to the New England Patriots in last season’s Super Bowl which many suspect has rendered Wilson unable to perform.

Wilson announced his decision during and hour long Q & A Session at The Rock Church in San Diego – which is owned by wrestling and acting star Dwayne Johnson.

“After the loss to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, and the break from the locker room… and all the guys… Well, I felt very flaccid – almost like I am no longer able to perform. But it has nothing to do with me,” stated Wilson. “It’s not that I can’t get up and perform with the guys. I know I can do it for the guys.”

Wilson then revealed that he can no longer play football and be with his team for spiritual reasons.

“I will be abstaining from the locker room, and football, I guess, for awhile because God spoke to me and told me that I should stop doing what I’m doing,” said Wilson. “I told God right then and there that I would do it Jesus’ way. I know that God had brought the locker room, the showers, and football into my life for a reason, and He is taking these away from me now so that I can spread his word instead of… Well, so I can spread His word.”

Wilson then went on to reassure his teammates that they had nothing to do with his decision.

“It was me, not them. I always had great protection available. I loved my tight ends who really let me throw it in there. I rejoiced at my wide receivers who let me go really deep, and…” the teary-eyed Wilson paused to put a jacket over his lap, then continued “I enjoyed having my Max Unger at center, bent over right in front of me, and just knowing that I was in control. But, God has led me into another way of life and I must accept it.”

Head coach of the Seahawks, Pete Carroll, has announced that in light of the announcement he will be looking for another quarterback to fill Wilson’s shoes.

“It won’t be easy, but we’ll have to find another quarterback that will be as much of an asset as Russell was. He knew how important his team bonding really was and that’s what has brought us so much success. I hope that he’ll come out soon, but until then, I guess we’ll just see if our backups – Tavarus Jackson or R.J. Archer – will be willing to go as far as Wilson did on the field, in the locker room, and in the showers.”
