More Than 6,000 Airplanes are Still Frozen Over US Airspace

Nearly 6,400 flights remain frozen, suspended mid-flight over the US, since the climate-change-amplified polar vortex began on Tuesday.

Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell released a statement regarding the stranded passengers and planes.

“Although the planes are stuck in the sky, they aren’t using any fuel,” Elwell said. “As soon as this storm blows through, you can expect your loved ones to land safely; with only minor amputations being necessary. We’re talking fingers, maybe some ears and an occasional nose.”
