Indiana legislators pushed a law through late Monday night in response to travel bans put in place by government officials spanning the country. The law, entitled the “Retaliation Edict for Travel Allowed: Receptiveness Decision” (R.E.T.A.R.D) has officially allowed for the state of Indiana to immediately begin construction of a full border fence.
The original law that sparked the controversy was signed by Indiana Governor Mike Pence (R) just days ago. The law, which allows for Indiana businesses to reject homosexual customers because of religious beliefs, has taken a lot of flak across the U.S.
Indeed, the governors of Washington and Connecticut, as well as the mayors of San Francisco and Seattle have all banned government-funded travel to the state of Indiana – with more predicted to join. In retaliation, Pence and the Republicans in the Indiana Congress fervently drafted a travel bill that passed within 1 hour of the first letter being penned.
In his official comments on the passage of the new fence bill, Pence stated that this would make a statement telling other states to “butt out of Indiana politics,” but also, it would “add hundreds of thousands of minimum wage jobs for the state and effectively negate the effects of major companies and events leaving or boycotting Indiana.”

Upon being informed, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee reviewed the bill and made a short press statement that said:
“Although their intentions are clear, they appear to be as misguided and aloof with this law passage as they were with the previous one. This new law neglects to place bans on travel into Indiana via aircraft – the method of transportation that the vast majority of government officials from most non-bordering (and even some bordering states) would most likely use to enter the Hoosier State.”
