Elon Musk lost millions of Twitter followers today after he enacted an application-wide ban on bot accounts which accidentally included a wiping-out of generic-looking bros with the same picture. The mistake came just hours after Musk tweeted “The bots are in for a surprise tomorrow”.
One employee, who was immediately fired by Musk when the error occurred, has told reporters that it was an honest mistake.
“The algorithm itself picked up on the fact that these accounts’ photos were essentially indistinguishable from one another and that the users themselves were all posting the exact same talking points, often times word for word,” the anonymous former Twitter worker confirmed.
Besides Musk losing just over 100 million followers, Twitter itself lost over 670 million users.
Fellow social media mogul Mark Zuckerberg weighed in on the events.
“It’s an understandable mistake,” the pale, emotionless, monotone Zuckerberg stated. “It’s hard to discern the difference between bootlicking bros and regular robots that mindlessly interact without displaying real human emotion or deep thought.”
