Gallup has released a poll that shows that Republicans care more about poor people than Democrats. Indeed, the poll has raised some eyebrows on the left as they have always claimed to be the party that supports programs that assist the poor.
The poll shows that 18% of Democrat voters are satisfied with what we do to help the poor, while only 14% of Republican voters feel that we are doing enough. This comes at a time when nearly 70% of budget cuts proposed by Republicans would be to programs that help low-income families.
In response to the poll’s release, Representative Gwen Moore, D-Wisc., who sponsored the H.R.814 – RISE Out of Poverty Act, had the following to say:
“As an individual that is part of a party which prides itself on helping the poor, I feel that this is quite the surprise to hear that Republican voters care more. I’m glad that everyone is dissatisfied by the lack of support that the poor receive, but this is mind-boggling.”
With many talking about pay in the fast food industry, where working full-time at minimum wage levels equates to about $15,000 a year, the new head of Taco Bell decided to chime in.
“I definitely care about maintaining our poor people,” stated new Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol. “If we didn’t have these poor people, then who would run all of our fast food restaurants and do the jobs that nobody – not even the poor – want to do?”
Speaker of the House John Boehner has also backed the move that will remove funding for more than 4 million poor families via Republican-proposed cuts to government programs.
“We all know that if we keep giving money to these people who do nothing – other than work or avoid awful, underpaid jobs – then Americans will never strive to advance to a point where nobody ever does these jobs at all,” stated Boehner.
Continuing on, Boehner went on to say, “Let me quote Jesus, ‘If they are hungry, cut benefits to programs that feed them. If they are sick, deny them healthcare. If they are strangers, deport them.’ I love that Jesus guy.”

*Notably, Gallup has been recording these statistics for years and Republicans tend to care much, much more about the poor when a Democrat is president. Experts say that this might be because it is an actual topic of conversation during these times and, possibly, because it’s just another thing to complain about.
