Target has announced that it is going to remove boy and girl labels from various aisles and items – including the toy section of its stores. The move, which will make at least all toys (and bedding) non-gender labeled, has caused an uproar in the United States.
Target sees millions of people come in to their stores each-and-every day in order to purchase a wide variety of goods, but now it appears that customers will be left to their own – potentially lost and meandering – discretion when deciding what males or females are supposed to buy, wear, and play with.
Kentucky resident Steven McCormick, whose local Target has already begun its “transition” said that the lack of labels left him and his 4-year-old son looking foolish.
“We were getting ready for our vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama and we both needed new swimsuits for the trip,” stated McCormick.
“Well we get to Gulf Shores, check in, and head to the beach – 30 minutes later the police arrested me for being a pedophile and take my son away because we were both wearing gorgeous, pink floral bikinis. How was I supposed to know!?”
Indeed, it wasn’t only the McCormick family that has felt the impact of Target’s decision. Another parent, Latecia Quinn told us that things did not go well when she took her 9-year-old son Jermichael to Target to get some back to school clothes.
“We were looking for outfits for my growing Jer Jer and he kept saying that he wanted to wear the Rachael Ray Cucina 12-piece Hard Anodized Cookware Set in blue. It was devastating.”
Quinn continued, “The fact that Target has even removed its gender labels from the kitchen and cleaning sections has now made my son consider a relationship in which he and his partner would put an equal amount of work into household responsibilities. That’s just not right.”
