SeaWorld Refusing to Free Dead Whale

SeaWorld in San Antonio, Texas is refusing to properly dispose of the corpse of the recently deceased, 18-year-old orca named Unna. Instead, the park has opted to continue using the lifeless animal to bring in crowds and do more shows.

With PETA in an uproar and petitions circling the Internet, this is certainly a story that we will be keeping our eye on. In order to keep the shows going, SeaWorld has been using underwater catapults to throw Unna’s decaying corpse out of the water. As you can see, they have yet to perfect a natural, living whale’s movements:

Several times Unna has started to slowly sink to the bottom of the tank, forcing SeaWorld to pump her full of helium:

Unna’s body has also floated listlessly into the tank’s glass:

As a response, SeaWorld has decided to rig Unna’s body up to an underwater track and pulley system – allowing trainers to once again ride her across the pool:
