Duped at the deli counter? How to avoid coming home with a newborn baby again

Are you tired of going to the grocery store for a rack of lamb and mistakenly coming home with an infant? You’re not alone. In fact, by 2020 the average American will find 12 newborn babies a year in their groceries when they get back home from the store.

Grocers say the next time you’re at the deli counter for some hand-breaded chicken, savory sausages, or yummy short ribs to really pay attention to ensure that the deli attendant doesn’t hand you a two-day-old baby wrapped in brown paper.

“Take a good long look at what the worker puts on the weighing scale,” Kroger grocery stores CEO Rodney McMullen stated. “If the meat is moving then it’s probably a baby, so just ask for a different cut.”

McMullen also reminded the general public that, as of last March, the company is no longer accepting baby returns at the deli.

“We’re not sure where they come from, I have not clue how people are accidentally bringing them home, but we’re not – under any circumstance – accepting any returns.”
